MSNBC reported that 32 zoo animals froze to death at the Serengeti Zoo in northern Mexico. Obviously, in the U.S, we have seen that the temperatures are extremely cold in allot of places, causing more snow than ever, and just horrible weather conditions. But, apparently it’s been effecting Mexico too. This happened in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico in the state Chihuahua. This has been the coldest winter in 6 decades, and therefore, apparently, the Zoo was not prepared for this, causing them to loose 35 animals.
There were 14 parrots, 13 serpents, five iguanas, two crocodiles and a capuchin monkey that died. Now, the temps only dropped to 9 degrees Fahrenheit (-13 Celsius). Which some could say is not that cold, but as stated above, that’s the coldest they have been in 6 decades. Honestly, I’m not sure why they didn’t have some sort of backup generator to keep the animals somewhat warm, but there (apparently) have been so many power outages there, and problems because of the weather… so, maybe they couldn’t get one.
It’s sad to hear of any animals die, especially so many at one time.
For the original story go to 35 zoo animals freeze to death in northern Mexico. For the sake of the animals, and us humans, I sure hope it warms up soon.
