What do you know about the Virginia Opossum?
Did you know that they have quite a few of them in most parts of Texas? These animals do well except in the drier areas. They also have adapted to humans and most of the things that go along with being around people. I will say that many possums don’t fair well against cars and trucks on the roadways.
So how often do these creatures have litters?
How many babies are in each litter (oh, this peice of info kind of shocked me)? How long is a opossum pregnant?
Did you know that opossums are the only mammal in the US that has an external pouch for their babies?
These babies are so super duper small when they are born.
How much do these mammals weigh?
How long does a opossum live in the wild?
What do they normally eat…other than bugs?
Ok now that I have ask a bunch of questions…I’ll give you the link to an Animal Story where you can find the answers.
WILD ABOUT TEXAS: Opossums come out when sun goes down
Growing up I learned that possums are not always nice critters. They have teeth and can be nasty. They also love chicken eggs and would rob the hen house. Even the dogs learned not to get to close to the opossum, just bark and wait for some help if it didn’t run away.
These animals are not pets so, keep that in mind if you find one!
