Once again a business has pulled an advertising gimmick that has landed them in the category of animal news. Some may think that getting your business talked about in any manner is good but, in cases where animal lovers are complaining about you…it might not be that great.
In July of 2010 we linked to a story about a company in Russia who used an animal to get their business noticed and it didn’t seem to go that well. I mean what kind of person would ever think that a Parachuting Donkey would be good advertising?
I would think that the only places that would even think about using an animal for advertising on the street would be a rescue or zoo. Seeing one of those types of places with a live animal out would seem logical to most people. While any other business may run the risk of being ridiculed if they use a live animal to get attention. Yeah, a business like the one I am talking about today is one of them that should have thought twice before they opted to get an “animal for hire”.
Cinco de Mayo was this past week and many business’ went all out to draw in the crowds of people celebrating. One particular business seemed to go a bit to far. The Pink Taco in Century City decided to hire a donkey to stand outside their restaurant. While some say having the donkey outside all day was not a big deal, others were not a bit happy. Animal lovers didn’t think the business did itself any favors by having a donkey (shaved) painted pink (with the name Pink Taco LA) chained up out on the hard pavement.
Now some people have set up a Facebook page (Boycott Pink Taco Century City) where a variety of people are voicing their opinions. I do not live in the area so, I have no idea what the temperature was the day the donkey was on display but, most sites are saying it was around 85 degrees. Some people are saying that the donkeys owner was on site the entire time the donkey was on display and he provided food and water for “Pinky”. Others said they saw no water or food. Some even said the food the donkey had was not appropriate.
So, I have to leave it up to all of you to decide for yourselves if the Taco Shop went to far. If they had the correct permits and if the whole thing is blown out of proportion.
