Oh my it’s a baby! Who doesn’t love a baby animals? They are so little, cute, and down right huggable.
Workers at the Cincinnati Zoo are all proud parents (or God parents). On the morning of April 2, 2011 Maasai gave birth to a wobbling 6 foot bundle of joy. The baby was attempting its wobbly legs out just 20 minutes after it was born. Maasai is a 4 year old giraffe and this is her 1st calf. Last update I saw said she was a good mother and the calf was nursing happily.
Giraffes are very social animals and I am betting that the other resident giraffes are also very excited to have a little one join the family. In fact it has been 26 years since the Cincinnati Zoo has had a baby giraffe born there. I have a feeling that any female giraffes there are happy to be aunts.
Today Monday April 4 is the 1st day the baby will be seen by the public. The zoo wanted to allow time for the momma and baby to bond.
You can check out this video and get a sneak peek! Beware you will say AWWWWW! If your a tough guy, you may want to watch when none of your buddies are around. ;-)
When I had my kids…the public sure wouldn’t have wanted to see me even a week after I gave birth. But, from the pictures…the momma giraffe looks pretty as ever. The baby is way to cute for words. Oh, you can see more pictures of mom and baby at the Zoos Facebook page HERE.
This really makes me want to get a giraffe for myself. I am sure the neighbors would never notice a 16 foot tall animal in my back yard. They don’t want me to have a pit bull but, they NEVER said anything about a giraffe. I could tell them that the giraffe is a roof inspector? Ok, that will never work. My neighbors are jerks and I doubt that I could ever get a permit for a real live giraffe. I’ll just keep watching the zoos facebook page to see pic and videos and then I’ll get myself a stuffed giraffe to cuddle.
So what do you think?
Is that the cutest baby giraffe ever?
