Everything I know about Where Baby Alligators Come From, I learned from puppets. Ok, maybe not everything but, it was a fun way to get kids interested in these somewhat misunderstood animals.
Many people may see alligators as just big mean eating machines. But, they are so much more. They have feelings you know. Now that Spring is here, alligators may be out at “mating parties”. This is no cheap meat market night club where a bunch of guys go to pick up hot chicks. Well, come to think of it, yes it is pretty much the same. But, I would say the biggest difference is how hard the guys have to work to get a female gator to even consider mating with them. When you watch the video you will find out what these male alligators have to go through just to catch a ladies eye.
If a pair is lucky enough to find a mate then, it is off to start a family. You will learn what the parents jobs are after the mating is complete. Let me just say that the males…get off pretty easy. The female however has a lot of work ahead of her. Being a mother gator can be a hard job. Nest building, egg laying, and security guard all wrapped into part of a successful family.
In this video Chloe the Cat will also tell you a little about when and where you might start seeing alligators in mass. She also talks a bit about each parents job and how long after mating until you could see baby gators. Heck, she even tells you why some nest are full of baby boy gators and some nest are mostly girl gators.
Go ahead and watch the video. It might teach you a few things you didn’t know or it could just make you giggle as our puppet skills are not really “professional”. But, who would expect a cat to know much about gators? I am sure most cats avoid them. ;-)
