Back in December of 2008 we wrote about a case where animal DNA was used to catch someone that was killing wolfs (DNA From Wolf Killers Trophy Necklace Helps Bust Him). Today we are seeing more animal abusers being caught and convicted with the use of DNA. Kind of makes you want to cheer “Get em Boys”.
According to an article in the NY Times blog, 2 cats got a bit of justice when their abusers were convicted of animal cruelty. The cats DNA was used to locate where the crime happened and connect the people to the crime. See the full story at Animals’ DNA Helps Catch Their Abusers.
Animal abuse is a horrible thing. I firmly believe that people who abuse animals will abuse people as talked about in How Animal Abuse and other Crimes are Related. While some people say that animal abuse is not the same as harming people and should not hold the same type of punishments…what will they say if someone that harms an animal and gets off with a small fine then hurts a human? Will they say “Gosh, why didn’t someone stop them earlier”? Probably!
Here’s hope that as animal abuse laws get stricter and with the help of animal DNA being used…we can get some of these scumbags away from animals and children before they do more.
