Animals Sense Earthquakes Long Before Us

We know that animals are much more sensitive to changes than us humans. When it comes to earthquakes animals are fleeing the area or at least acting strangely hours before any human has a clue.

While living in Washington State in 2001 there was a 6.8 earthquake near Olympia, Wa and my dog tried to tell me it was coming but, I was not paying attention.
He ran to the door several times and even started whining. That was about 5-10 minutes before I heard the “train coming”. Yes, it sounded like a train heading for the house and there were no tracks anywhere near. He knew things were not a bit right and tried to tell me.

In the article Can Animals Foresee Natural Disasters they state that before that same earthquake cats in Seattle went missing. Guess we should all start watching fluffy a little closer?!

They also say that snakes are the best predictors and may notice even slight vibrations up to 120 hours before a quake. Truthfully, I think people may be hesitant if a city sent out a “Snakes acting strangely alert” and ask residents to get prepared.

Maybe we should start watching wildlife closer because they are obviously smarter than us and our machines when it comes to earthquakes.
