Parts of New Mexico is under attack by furry animals. It’s not any big scary animal that you would normally think of using the term “under attack” with. Nope these areas are being taken over by prairie dogs. Little cute burrowing critters that most people just want to watch and take pictures of. Most people in the area of Bosque Farms enjoy getting a peek at the prairy dogs out running around. Yet, others are blaming these animals for destroying a sewer line and electrical lines. They also fear the critters may be burrowing under the highway and that could cause a collapse.
The animals are even invading an airport. Workers there are worried because coyotes and birds are now coming to the land to hunt the prairie dogs. That could be dangerous for both planes and the animals.
One group has been trying to relocate as many of the animals as possible but, just don’t have the funds to move them all. Other people have been using gas to run the PD’s off.
You can read the full story and see the video report at Bosque Farms prairie dogs are force to be reckoned with.
I’m sure that if they really did chew through pipes and lines then yes, people would be upset but…some are saying that it is more likely that squirrels have done the damage and not prairie dogs.
I would love to see a few prairie dogs in my back yard, as long as they didn’t destroy everything. Then again I have a Jack Russel Terrier so, I doubt many prairie dogs would want to move in.
Maybe the prairie dogs are sending a message to the people and business that they want their land back?
