Today on my search for news stories about animals, I found a story that kind of shocked me. It is talking about a practice of animal cruelty that I had no idea still went on.

The practice of bear baiting is still alive in the USA. I know shocking that the USA would still allow this (we are civilized right?). To be fair only 1 state that allows it. A state that I always thought of as being kind and gentle…South Carolina.

You can go over to Uncovered in South Carolina: Bear Abuse for Show and read about the practice and learn how cruel it is. They also have an undercover video of a bear that is put in a small fence, tied up close to a wall, and then people let their dogs come after her. She has no defense, no where to run. The bears owner has taken out her teeth and declawed her. These dogs just torture her. She has to be terrified. The dogs are jumping and biting her.

This is suppose to train dogs to keep a bear at bay by not letting the bear move. Hello, dipheads..how can they “judge” this competition when the bear has nowhere to go and no way to fight back? Under these circumstances it mean that cruel people just want to see the dogs torture the bear. There is no competition, no training…. nothing. Heck, I know some little chihuahua’s that could run and bark at a defenseless animal that has been beaten down.

To top it off..the owners of the bears have been given permits to use the animals for this.
Go over and read the info, watch the video, and then get mad enough to tell other people what is happening. Write letters if you can…lets get this stopped so no other bears ever have to live like this.

How about we take all those people watching or participating and chain them up, then find a bear to show them how real bears react. (Opps, that wasn’t nice but, you know what I mean).

Do you think this is a dog training exercise, sport, or just cruelty?

  1. That was one of the cruelest thing I have ever seen. I can’t believe ANYONE could HONESTLY believe this is a fun thing and not cruelty. I get more and more disgusted in the human race. Actions like this really pisses me off!!!

  2. I agree Corey, the human race is not really as smart as they think they are. At least some of the human race does understand the difference between caring for animals and cruelty. We just have to keep remembering that their are some good people out there. Then we need to hunt down the bad people and smack ‘em around.

  3. Actually, this is a no-contact event. If the dogs try to bite the bear, the dogs are immediately caught and disqualified. The bear is not harmed.
