We have some great animal news to report today!
Back in April 2010 we posted New Bill to Stop Animal Cruelty Video Sales. The bill was not passed in April because law makers felt it was to broad. They were afraid that the ban would include video’s about hunting, fishing, husbandry…

Well the law makers (Republican Representative Elton Gallegly) went back to the drawing board to refine the latest bill to out law Crush Video’s. If you don’t know what Crush video’s are be thankful. They are fetish video’s of small animals (including kittens, puppies, fish…) being killed or maimed.
No, I have never seen one of these video’s and kind of wish I never even knew they existed.

Ok, as of July 21, 2010 H R 5566 passed the US House of Representatives in a 416-3 vote to ban crush video’s. Anyone that creates, owns, or sells such video’s will be punished with fines and up to 5 years in jail. The outlawed video’s would include any “in which one or more living animals is intentionally crushed, burned, drowned, suffocated, or impaled” in a way that would violate animal cruelty statutes.

You can see who voted Yeah or Nay at BILL TITLE: Prevention of Interstate Commerce in Animal Crush Videos Act of 2010. The bill will now head to the US Senate. I would hope that they pass it without a second thought.

A broad version of this bill was passed in 1999 but then the Supreme Court struck it down as it was infringing on the US Constitution’s First Amendment right to free speech because of the wording of the in law.

I understand that the wording of the new bill needs to be exact. There shouldn’t be any room for misinterpretation. And by George, I hope they have it right this time.

UPDATE to Ban Crush Videos 9/28/10

The bill was introduced Today – WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. senators introduced the Animal Crush Video Prohibition Act of 2010. This bipartisan bill would criminalize the creation and sale of animal crush videos. The penalty for violators would be up to seven years in prison.

I hope to see that it was passed immediately!

UPDATE at 8pm PST 9/28/10- I read tonight that the US Senate passed all the revisions unanimously & now will go back to the House & if passed (with revisions) it will be Signed into law.

UPDATE 10/16/10

Yesterday the house passed the bill to ban crush videos. This was the 1st to be taken up in the lame-duck session of Congress that opened Monday. Since the bill is different than was passed by the Senate in September…it now goes back to the senate.

The House took out a Senate provision that made punishments for attempting or conspiring to make the videos equal to punishments for a completed product.

How can they pass a 2000 page healthcare bill (a bill that effects everyone’s lives & health) in no time but, can’t get get this bill threw? It really makes no sense.

I understand that they want to make sure that the law is exact and can not be fought by some scum lawyer that is trying help keep animal abusers and deviants free and on our streets. But, geesh!

UPDATE 11/19/10

Today Friday Nov. 19, 2010 The Senate passed this bill (HR5566) to ban “Crush” videos and it is heading to President Barack Obama for his signature.

YEAH! Finally they got something done right!

  1. I know it hasn’t been a big story, and it was only just passed by the House, but WHY on Earth haven’t we heard the reasons behind the 3 NAY votes? We all know Paul is a crackpot, but the others need to feel some heat from the national media, too.

  2. I also wondered who would say NAY to this. I see no reason to allow video’s like this.
I know some people have been sending NICE letters to their Senators encouraging them to partner in and get this pass all the way through.

  3. I was not aware of this type of abuse happening for viewers. This is absolutely disgusting! Those involved should be brought to justice with severe consequences!! If this law is not passed I will be completely ashamed of our judicial system!
