Lily is a 3-year-old black bear denning near Ely, Minnesota. Doug Hajicek installed a LIVE cam in her den so we can all watch her give birth and care for her cubs.
If you would like to peek inside a bears den to see mom & cub…this is your chance. As of the time I am posting there is 1 cub confirmed. They are not sure if a second was born or not. You can go watch & listen for yourself at Lily the Black Bear Den Cam If you have Facebook, you can also post notes to share with the others watching.
You can hear sounds of the momma bear & her cub. Most of the time you just hear a buzzing so, keep watching the text chat, the other people will start posting when they hear baby squeals.
I think the live cams are great for being able to learn about the animals without having to interfere in their life.
UPDATE 1/17/11
People have been watching the live cam as Lily is possibly going to be giving birth sometime in Mid to Late January of 2011. Normally she would have stayed with her cub (Hope) for 2 years and missed a breeding season but, not Lily. She left Hope and went out and believed to have mated. Don’t worry Hope is fine since she got a little help from some humans. They made sure she had food until she could find enough on her own. You can see them both on the live cam doing just fine.
