Commissioners adopt pet sterilization rule
They say this will cut down on illegal back yard breeders & cut down the amount of animals entering the shelters.
I see their point a little, it may cut down on accidental pups or kittens. I agree with others that 4 months is very young to have your pet spayed/neutered.
They say you can apply to get a breeders permit for $25. The only problem is your pet MUST have been in shows.
I also think that the illegal backyard breeders are NOT going to follow the rule. Most of those don’t even follow the current laws.
I can also see where some people may be concerned with the cost of the spay/neuter. I figure that Clark County should foot the bill. At least give discounts that everyone can afford.
How much will it cost to enforce this new law?
Will they soon be having people get fixed so the county doesn’t have to foot the bill of low income residents?

What happen about two years ago that are government, city, county and state decided they no longer needed to have citizens vote on big decisions like this! This new law is appalling. Animals are too young at four months to be fixed. This will make them mentally retarded. The city was told that by at least ten or so vets when they were talking about this law in Jan 2010. I guess the City knows better then vets that have been to school for this. Oh we can get A permit for show animals wow ya that’s great kill off all the mutts and keep the full breeds. I say kill off because if you fix all of the animals so they can no longer reproduce how long will it be before all you have left is stupid, dumb and usually mean full breeds!! I got an idea lets fix all of the city officials that thought up this law so they can not reproduce because any one who thinks this law is a good thing needs to have there head examined.
I agree the County Commissionoers need their heads rexamined.
I agree that most people need to have their pets spayed or neutered.
We have lived in places where neighbors just have litter after litter of puppies and kittens only to send them to the pound, leave them in a nasty back yard, or just open the door and let them go free. That is the type of person that should not have a breeding animal.
We rescued a female do that her past owner let her get pregnant by just any male because “it was unkind to fix her and not let her be a mother to pups”. We had her fixed ASAP.
I also think they will have to ask neighbors or vets to turn people in if they see your pet is not fixed. That is going to cause problems.
Yes, I live in Las Vegas and have pets.
First off, my pets happen to be fixed.
I had my dog spayed (and she is a papered pooch too) as soon as the vet said it was ok.
However, it is my responsibility to raise my animals, not the Governments duty to decide how to go about it.
The losers that don’t watch their dogs or are illegal backyard breeders will not care anyway.
This only targets the honest hardworking people that are a revenue stream for the defunct government.
I’m sure that there are quite a few other items the Government should be focusing on instead of whether or not Scruffy is fixed.
Any veterinarian worth his or her salt will turn you away at four months and tell you to come back at six months if you truly want to S/N your dog or cat. That said, what ever happened to responsible pet ownership? Walk your dog on a leash. Don’t let your cat roam free? Apparently these politicians were strongarmed by the special interest groups. Once again, they’ve made a bad decision. Any research on other communities that have passed similar legislation show such laws are ineffective. I hope this poorly written law is challenged an rescinded in short order.
I do agree with outraged, what ever happened to responsible pet ownership. The same thing that happened to responsible parents and for that matter responsible banks and so on. No one is held accountable for their actions. On the other hand like stated above our rights and voice have been taken away we are now told what we need and how we are going to do it.
Defiantly right on the edge on communism.
We are allowing all this because nobody will stand up and fight for their rights.
I guess it’s just a matter of time before we Americans will have to get fixed or get a breeders permit to have children.

We need less laws and more enforcement of the ones we already have.
How about we limit the number of Illegal Aliens coming across our borders and popping out kids every 10 months?

Please get your ignorant facts straight…to bash purbreds is as ignorant as not sending your children to school! Nothing wrong with mutts, and they should all be spayed/neutered at 6 months, including purebreds who do not pass their health clearances, and i’m talking about hips, elbows, eyes, heart, and other medical inheritable conditions that plague certain breeds. A reputable breeder will have all of these tests done on their dogs and in order to show to the public. Pups will be sold on limited registration contracts AND guaranteed for life. Any dog not worthy of putting in a showring should be spayed or neutered.

If you’re going to go that far, you may as well have people pass a test before they are even allowed to have sex. That way we’ll prevent STD’s, “accidents”, dead beats, and one-night stands. Way to think, Comrad!
