Yeah Dublin Zoo! For once red heads are getting their day in the sun (not much of a pun intended).

This week Dublin Zoo is celebrating Orangutans and to help make it fun they were giving free entry into the zoo for any child with red hair (or that ‘dressed like an orangutan).

Apparently some people thought it was terrible and would lead to red headed children being made fun of or compared to orangutans. Well, if you have been a redhead then you know that no one needs any zoo to give other kids ideas of ways to tease you. Kids already tease you and being compared to such cute animals like an orag utan would be much nicer than other things they say.

So I say Dublin Zoo is fine with their promotion. Red headed kids are probably not the least bit offended. Not  so sure if the orangutans want to be compaired to some kids though. LOL

Orangutans share around 97% of their DNA with humans.
Orangutans are the only great apes of Asia.
They are the largest arboreal animals in the entire world. Arboreal means Living in trees.
Their arms can actually stretch out longer than their bodies.
They are VERY strong animals!
Momma orangutans are very protective and the babies stay close to her the first few years of their life.

Orangutans are facing extinction and are endangers due to destruction of the rain forest and the wild animal trade (2 things that don’t have to happen). Dublin Zoo is working to bring attention to these wonderful animals and more people need to start worrying about the animals rather than spend time worring if a kid will get teased. Kids are always going to get teased but, one day there may be no orangutans around to even be teased about.

Red heads unite to help each other!
