Something strange is happening at the Houston Police Academy in North Houston, Texas.  Many believe “fowl” play is at hand….

At the nearby pond on the grounds of the Houston Police Academy lives three ducks.  These ducks originally were an Easter gift for the grandchildren of Mr. James Kindel.  Once the duck were raised and became too big for their cages, the Kindel family released them into the wild and straight into their local Police Academy’s pond.

Now, every morning as the Police Cadets line up for roll call, they are joined by their three adopted ducks; or as they call them, the CaDUCKs!  As one of the officers stated, “Our Caducks take their training very seriously.”

The ducks stand at attention on command along side the Cadets during roll call.  When the Cadets are ordered to march for their drills, they are joined by the ‘Caducks’, who march in cadence with the officers in training.  “They even manage to keep up with us as we are marching in double time!”, one Cadet exclaimed.

When the Cadets morning routine is finished, the cadets go indoors to their classroom.  The three Caducks then casually march themselves back to the pond without being prompted.

Throughout the day, as the Cadets come outside for their breaks, they are once again greeted by their fine feathered friends.  Many of the Cadets bring treats out with them to offer their comrads and these “lucky ducks” are all to happy to accept!

When asked if the ducks create any problems for the Cadets during their training exercises, they reply, “No, they are helping us learn how to quack down on crime.”

Many police forces throughout the world have K-9′s and Mounted Patrols; why not DUCK-tectives?

  1. This brings back memories, When I was young we had a couple ducks that would follow you around all over the place. I think the secret is to be nice to animals and they will love you back. Actually animals give unconditional love, there are no conditions or ultimatums like humans, If you give them the chance many will just plain love you!

Enough philosophy and mushy stuff, the video is awesome Thanks it made my day!
