Just as we think that the human race may have started caring about the animals and the survival of them around the world…I see a report from TRAFFIC that tells a sad story ( Record ivory seizures in 2011: watchdog). It seems more illigally gotten ivory was seized in 2011 that in 2010.
Not sure if I should take that as a sign that more smugglers are just getting caught than in years past or if there are more elephants being killed and more ivory being shipped?!
I would hope that the people buying the ivory understand that at some point there will be no more. Not only will the ivory be gone but, when the elephants are gone so is the balance of the eco system. I’m sure that those people could care less about the eco system. In fact they would love to see the ivory supply dry up…it would make their stash worth even more. Yes, we are seeing that same thought process being used with tuna, catch it all store it and wait until you are the only supply to get it and then fill your greedy pockets while others suffer the consequences of the ocean being screwed. Oh wait, they are doing that with so many species of animals (and plants) that there will be nothing left for future generations except the stories of greedy men to filled their wallets and died.
Ok,rant over!
