It has been a super busy few days for many people. I am about to give you even 1 more thing to check out.

A new sister site to Facebook has just opened its doors. This is not just another social site for people to post what they had for lunch. This site is for people who want to be active with charities and organizations that are helping change the world. No big buttons or pages saying “Donate to my out dated crap cause”. Just real updates from real organizations. These all fall under an actual charity.

Jumo - We connect individuals and organizations working to change the world

– Find issues and projects you care about

– Follow the latest news and updates

– Support their work with your time, money, and skills

They have many animal and environmental charities already listed. They are not just limited to animals and enviroment. They have Health, Education, Disaster Relief, politics….

As of right now the site is in BETA! That means that not all things work right nor do they have all kinds of features yet. It also means that if you are someone that just wants to complain when their are bugs in a site…then don’t join yet.

You can pick topics that you are interested in, then find particular organizations to follow within that topic.
Right now I am following 12 organizations in 5 Issues.

As an example -
Here are a few of the projects I am following

Projects
Wildlife Conservation Society.
Animal protection issue.
African Conservation Centre.
Institute of Environmental Research in the Amazon.
Amazon Conservation Association.
Nature Conservancy.
Environmental Defense Fund.
Island Conservation.
Zoo New England.
Sonoran Institute.
Oregon Natural Desert Foundation.
Alternative energy issue.
The Wilderness Society.

Issues
* wildlife preservation
* environment
* alternative energy
* climate change
* animal protection

At any time you can Unfollow or find more Issues or Projects to follow. Any updates from the projects you follow will show up on your Jumo Home Page so, you can just click to read the entire update and LIKE them. You can also go to the Home Page of any of the Projects (organizations) so you can learn more about them and see their updates.

You can also follow other members and post on their walls.

Right now since Jumo is in Beta, you must have a Facebook account to be able to even register for Jumo. Once you have decided to join Jumo, you will have to allow it to “grab” your Facebook info. All it grabs is your profile pic and you bio. It does NOT seem to import anything else. You can then pick issues you are interested in, it will give you some choices of projects you can also follow now (you can add or unfollow projects at any time). Remember it is Beta so, not sure how things will work in the future.

Once you have joined and are in, Go to the upper right SETTINGS tab, under the ABOUT tab You will need to make sure your BIO is under 200 characters or none of your other settings will save.
Then under the NOTIFICATIONS tab you can pick how, what, and when you get email notifications.
Under the CONNECT tab, you can place your Twitter, YouTube, Blog, Website, Flickr, and Vimeo usernames so, they show up on your profile.

Ok, now you are signed up, filled out, and you can go to your HOME page and start seeing what is going on with your favorite projects. If you are looking for a specific charity, you can use the SEARCH at the top of the page.

Now I am following only Animal and Environment projects at the moment but, ya just never know when I might find other things that I will want to keep up to date on. I figure the site just opened to the public a few hours ago so, I will need a bit more time to find all the things they will offer.

Oh, and you will want to find me once you join…you can follow me at  Wendy Ai on Jumo

If you are with a NonProfit and would like to have your project added to the Jumo site…There is a good tutorial at HOW TO: Add Your Nonprofit to Jumo (and Why You Should).

We hope to see some great organizations and great people over at Jumo!
