Have researchers at the United States Army-University of Montana joint team found the reason for the decline in honeybees?

Bees have been seeing an increased death rate over the last 4 years. This has been alarming since bees pollinate about a 1/3 of the food sources for the USA. While many people have blamed GM foods, researchers now think it is something else.

They think that honey bees are ok when they are subjected to a particular fungus or infection. But, the combination of a bee having both the fungus and the virus will kill the bee. The research has taken a long time due to the fact that bees don’t just die in the hive. They fly off and it is hard to find many of the bodies to examine. You can see the entire article about this research at Scientists and Soldiers Solve a Bee Mystery.

I heard a news story about this earlier that said there was  possibility that bees will work one one particular type of pollen and that could be part of the problem because of less diversity.

I seem to think that GM foods do have something to do with the problem. GM plants are made to kill off certain type of pest, parasites, and  germs. Why wouldn’t you think that all of that poison wouldn’t effect the bees also? I’m sure that Monsanto is paying big money to discredit the idea of GM plants hurting the bees.
So, what do you think is killing the bees?
