If you were the owner or a worker that lived down south and made your living off of the Gulf Coast waters and suddenly had your livelihood yanked out from under you…you know somethings in your life may have to be sacrificed. One of those things may be your pet. With little or no income the cost of feeding your pet may be more than you ever imagined. A few organizations teamed up to help families out with that problem.
Best Friends Animal Society has come to the rescue (with the help of many others). They have started a First Home Forever Home campaign to help those fishing families get free dog food. This helps families keep their pet in their home (where they belong) and keeps more animals from being turned over to the shelter because of the simple cost of dog food.
People can get the free food by showing they work in a field affected by the Gulf Oil Spill. Right now the food distribution is in St. Bernard, Plaquemines, Orleans and Jefferson parishes. They hope they can get this campaign ruffed up and get to even more locations and help more families with pets.
You can find ways to help feed pets of the Gulf Coast at Relief for innocent victims.
Most of these families are looking at possibly loosing everything they have…lets hope that at the least they can keep their familes (including the 4 legged furry members) together. Helping these people keep their dogs at home is easy and is much more productive than just sitting around complaining about how terrible BP is.
Other ways to Help Animals of the Gulf Oil Spill
Even sending these post out in a tweet, email, or posting on your Facebook will remind others that there is still a huge mess and good people, pets, and wildlife still need our help. Lets not let this get forgotten.

This is cool. Glad they’re getting help. Noone wants to give their dog way because they can’t buy food because BP killed off their job & took their only way to make money.
