So your dog came home stinkin to high heaven? Like all good dogs, yours happened to find something dead while he was out…and just had to roll in it. So, what do you do now?
Step 1 is to get clothes pin and place it on your nose. Oh, you won’t want to breath threw your mouth either, as you will be able to taste that stink. That means if you have to breath until you get the dog cleaned, you will be gagging. ;-)
We lived along a river that had a great run of salmon. Loved the fishing but, after spawning the fish die and float back down the river. I think most ended up in our yard and our dogs always found the rotting carcass. If you think that smell will just go away if you wait long enough…good luck with that. The stuff your dog just rolled in is like a gooey oil that will stay attached to your dogs fur for a very long time.
Here is some help to get the gunk and smell off of your pup so he can once again be a pet that you can snuggle and love.
Here is what you will need to make the “Stop the Stink Potion”.
Two 16 oz bottles of 2% or 3% Hydrogen Peroxide (this is what you normally find in stores)
Half a cup of Water
One teaspoon of Liquid Dish Soap
One fourth cup of Baking Soda
Mix the all the ingredients in a bowl or bucket. Now you can sponge the mixture onto the dog or you can pour it in a squeeze bottle and apply to the dog. Once you have the solution on the pet lather as if you were giving the dog a regular shampoo. Rub it in but make sure you avoid getting any into the dogs eyes or ears. Let this stand on the dog for 5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
The hydrogen peroxide mixture may bleach out the color of any fabric it spills or drips on so be careful if you have any good rugs, carpet, or towels in the bathroom.
They say that this mixture can also be used to get skunk smell off your dog but, thankfully I have never had the pleasure of my dog getting sprayed since being told about this recipe.

This does work I didn’t think about doing this. It worked for skunk smell on my same dog. But had to use just the Baking Soda and Peroxide to make a paste and leave the paste on for 10-20 minutes. Then wash with Dawn dish wash liquid. The down breaks down the oil as the spray from a skunk is oil based. My groomer told me about this. Also you need to put cooking oil on a paper towl and wipe the dogs eyes this will keep the past from getting into the eyes. (Just a note that if your dog is Dark as mine is Black she was a Marroon color for several weeks) But I would rather have a marroon dog than deal with skunk or dead animal smell. She has attacked skunks several times and this has always gotten the smell off with one treatment and wash.
