Anytime I see animal news coming out of Colorado, I am confused. Today is no different.

I came across an article out of the Denver Post that is about a Hartsel husband and wife who is sentenced to jail time and probation for illegal trapping and killing bobcats to sell their fur. The wife Veronica Anderson-Bodnar is sentenced to 5 years probation and her husband, Jeffery Bodnar is sentenced to 27 months prison and then 3 years supervised release.

The couple not only broke the law by using leg traps to catch animals, they also sold the furs across state lines. Along with the bobcats, the couple also was accused of poaching other animals.

Now, I feel it is great that the authorities have stopped this couple from killing more animals for profit. I also find it odd that Denver is in the spotlight for killing every pit bull or pit mix they find. I am not sure how it is ok to kill one specific breed but, they expect other citizens to be respectful of other animals.

Like I said, I do NOT believe the actions of the couple listed above but, I also think Denver sets a very bad example of killing everything they can because it saves or makes money. At least some in Denver feel it is a money saver to eradicate an entire species of dog that they think is a problem.
