I’m sure working as a customs agent has to be amazing some days. Especially when you are just putting in your hours at The Mexico City Airport and you look over to see a guy acting nervous. You may wonder what he has under his clothes…it could be something dangerous. Heck, people have carried bombs in their underwear so it could be anything.

Well, thank goodness it was nothing that could hurt other people. It seems that a man had 18 Titi Monkeys in his girdle around his waist. He had tied the poor animals in socks. 2 of the 18 died from suffocation, the other 16 were reported as ok.

The man did have a little sense, He had put the monkeys under his clothes instead of leaving them in his suitcase so they wouldn’t be harmed by the x-ray machines. So, there I give him a very little credit. Oh no I don’t! He likely didn’t want them harmed because then he couldn’t sell them if they died. If he only had 1 or 2 of the little monkeys then I might be inclined to think he did get them as pets for himself but, 18…nope he was looking to make a buck by selling them.

Titi monkeys are a protected endangered species so, he would have to have special permits to even own one. Pretty sure he wasn’t going to do that..would be hard to explain where he got them. “Sir, I was changing clothes & noticed I had socks tied around my waist. When I looked in the socks…what do you know there were baby monkeys in there. Not sure how they got there.”

Ok, I’ll stop making fun of him & you can go over to Mexico arrests man with 18 monkeys around his waist to read the details & see a video of the poor little things.

We have had other stories of animal smugglers getting caught. One was back in February 3 Men Caught Smuggling Jewelled Gecko’s and the other was posted at our Anipal Info Google Buzz. It was a story from May of 2009 about a Man Smuggling Birds in His Socks.

I am sure there are so many of these stories & they probably all have the people hiding the animals in strange places.
