Back in April we shared a video of Video of Anne the Rescued Circus Elephant in Her New Home. If you remember, Anne was part of the Bobby Roberts Super Circus located in the UK. Undercover animal activist had video of Anne being teased, taunted, and abused by circus workers. This all led to a huge push for Bobby Roberts to let Anne go to a new home where she could be more like an elephant. Mr. Roberts decided to let Anne move to the Longleat Safari Park.
Today I read that the Bobby Roberts Super Circus has let go of their last wild animal. Monty is a camel that doesn’t know he’s a camel. He has been in the circus and not around other camels but that is all changing! Monte is now living at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Although in the article Circus camel Monty is happy in his new home, it sounds like Monty has not yet begun living in the same area as the parks other camels…it won’t be long. Once Monty gets adjusted to his new surroundings then he will be part of the camel herd. I bet he will be excited to see other animals that look like himself and that he can chase, communicate, and enjoy his days with. He is 7 years old and it sounds as if all he has known was life in the circus.
Now, I am not sure how much pressure Bobby Roberts has gotten to release his wild animals but, I am glad he did. I know that the UK is still pushing hard to ban all wild animals from preforming. Since Roberts gave up his animals there are only 3 circus left using wild animals in the UK. Here’s hoping the to will see how much happier the animals are once they can have larger areas to move in and be with other animals of their kind.
I could not find a video of Monty at his new home but, here is a video of some of the other animals that also call Yorkshire Wildlife Park their home.
Thank you Mr. Roberts for letting these animals free from the circus! I hope the other circus owners will follow your lead!
