Nevada has just approved their 1st ever bear hunting on Saturday Dec. 4, 2010. From everything I have read, more people are against the hunt than for it. As it usually goes…the people in charge did not listen to the public. In fact the panel that voted even so much as said they had their minds made up before they even heard from the public.

The people for the bear hunt are under the impression that having a bear hunt will lessen the bear to human encounters. yeah, killing 20 of the 200-300 bears will really cut those encounters down?! What about the fact that people are roaming into the wilderness to see bears? Oh, we can not think about that because just like the wild horses, someone is going to make more money off of killing them than keeping them.

You can find out a bit about what was said at Panel votes to establish Nevada’s 1st bear hunt.

I will wait and see how long before they start a new project that will cost millions because the bear population is in danger in Northern Nevada. That is when all the wild life officials will then say some stupid thing about “we ok’ed the hunt because people wanted it”. They will also hope that everyone has forgotten how they did not listen or do any study before they approved the hunting.

FYI – I am not impressed with how Nevada Wildlife or the BLM handles their jobs of “managing” wildlife or the public lands. So far everything they do seems to be out of concern for their wallets, against public opinion, and we pay for their disregard of animal welfare.
