There is a new kid in town. Well, there is actually a new shark in New Orleans Audubon Aquarium and he is not a kid he is thought to be 45 – 50 years old.
Buzz is a 250 pound smalltooth sawfish. Kind a funny that they named a 12 foot long sawfish Buzz. I’m picturing the chainsaw massacre. I really doubt that Buzz should be compared to that movie considering he is much cooler.
Buzz got to meet his new friends on Nov. 14, 2010 after a first class trip from San Francisco (wow, he may be in culture shock).
If I lived anywhere near New Orleans I would be making a trip to see Buzz. It could be a once in a life time chance to see one of these awesome animals. There are only 6 places in the USA where you can see a captive smalltooth shark. Even people that go looking for them on dives are never assured that they will find one. They are endangered and fishing is one reason. Having that long jagged snout is not always a blessing when they meet up with a fishing net. Of course some people were so in awe when they did catch one they had to kill it and hang it on a wall somewhere to show their buddies. Now, the number of these sharks is dwindling. Great to know people have them on a wall rather than in the oceans where they belong. ARGH!
Anyway, if you get the chance to go visit the AUDUBON AQUARIUM IN NEW ORLEANS I say do it. Oh, and tell Buzz that we send our love.
