Apparently if you live in Whitman, Mass it is very rare to see a white squirrel. So rare that the event made the news. Rare Sight: White Squirrel Discovered In Back Yard.
Greg Merts of the New England Wildlife center said they only see 1 or 2 white squirrels a year compared to about 300 gray ones.
I would say that if you ever have the need to see a white squirrel that going to the Whitman area would not be as useful as visiting a small town in Illinois. If you are ever driving through Olney, Illinois you can stop at their city park & your chances of seeing a white squirrel are pretty good. I’m sure they encourage people to watch feeding them but, McDonalds french fries can usually bring them out. I would caution that just because they will come sit with you for food…they will bite. They are not tame! If you think it would be cool to catch one to have for yourself, I would not do that if I were you! The town has laws against capturing or harming their furry tailed friends.
