Today I found a very interesting article that ask “Can animals be gay?”.
I’m not sure I understand what the researchers mean as gay. Yes, I know that it is a slang term for homosexual. I’m just not sure if the researchers are using the term as a sexual preference or if they are also looking at the general benefits of some animals having a same sex partner to help them raise young.
The Black Swan is known to have 2 males team up as parents once a female has laid eggs. Are the swans homosexual or does the father pick another male because males are bigger and stronger therefore the eggs and hatchlings will have better protection from predators.
In the article Can Animals be Gay…they note that several animals have been known to pair up with a same sex partner. Some animals pretend to be gay just to distract the other males.
I just don’t know if this research is really right. There is no way of knowing if the same sex couples are doing it because they prefer something about others of the same sex or if it is a survival instinct. It’s like humans that may have a same sex friend to help them through life and even raising kids yet, they are not sexually attracted to each other.
Either way, I think it comes down to who is going to be there when you need help.
I just hope they don’t ever send out some research stating that “*insert animal* has gay tendencies”. There would be nut jobs that would want to take out the entire species because God told them to, they are a danger, a bad influence…
