While the number of wild tigers is dwindling in China there is a park that houses 15,000 of these animals.

I don’t know as I would call it a park. I think of a park as a nice grassy, friendly place. This “park” in Guilin, China is far from that.

They breed tigers for their bones. It is illegal to kill tigers so, they just put them in deplorable conditions and wait for them to die. Cramped filthy cages and very little food is a surefire way to make sure they die. I’m sure they have their “breeders” that may be treated a little better, at least until they have their cubs.

The bones are then sent 200 miles were their fur is taken off and their bones are put into vats of rice wine, which is then called Tiger Wine and holds a very high price. Breeding parks like the one in the article are slipping under the gun of Chinese law since they are not “killing” the animals and the wine is considered medicinal.

What is odd is that Tiger Wine is believed to pass on the strength of the Tiger. I see very little strength in a sick and starved animal.

This is the year of the Tiger and I hope that farms like the one talked about in the article  Exposed: Dark secret of the farm where tigers’ bodies are plundered to make £185 wine are put out of business forever.

UPDATE 3/25/10

Al Jazeera’s Tony Birtley reports from Guilin. (Mar 25, 2010) on the “research” center that as you will see, in this video, tries to lie about selling tiger wine right in their “gift shop”.

This park has found a loophole in the laws that say you can NOT kill a tiger…they just close off most of the animals from public view so, you can’t see them starving.
