On Memorial Day weekend the Indianapolis Zoo will be opening up their newest display.
The $2 million exhibit will be home to 5 of the worlds fastest animals. That’s right they are now giving a home to 2 females and 3 male cheetah’s. They will be living in a 20,000 square foot space where they can roam.
Teaming up with the zoo an Dr. Laurie Marker (Cheetah Conservation Fund), is one of the world’s fastest drivers…Tony Stewart! Together they hope to educate people about these wonderful cats.
It is believed that there are less than 10,000 of these animals left in the wild. They have already become extinct in over 16 countries. These cats can go from 0 to 70 MPR in just 3 seconds! With going into high gear like that means they will breath at 150 times per minute! Now, I know those Nascar guys can go fast but, I guarantee this cat can out maneuver them…A cheetah can even turn right!
You can see the Tony Stewart ‘Together we can Accelerate Change‘ . Tony is not my favorite Nascar driver but, he is moving his way up my list of good guys by helping people and animals. The Race for Survival is big brownie points in my book.
The zoo has a Live cam hooked up so you have a chance to see the cheetah’s roaming in their new home….Indianapolis Live Cheetah Cam. The cheetah’s did arrive at the Indy zoo in December 2009 but, needed time to adjust to their new home.
