Many people have been to Las Vegas and not only spent hours gambling but, they also take in a bunch of great shows. One of the other attractions are the various places with wild animals on display. The world famous MGM Grand is one place you will always find tourist gathered around the Lion display.

Normally the lions are just taking naps, maybe taking a stroll through the display but, not much “excitement”.

That was until September 1, 2010! A few on lookers got more excitement than they really ever planned on. One of the lions decided it was going to take a bite of one of the trainers. Thank goodness another trainer was in the area with them.

MGM says that they are still investigating WHY this lions made the move he did. They also say that the lion did not intend to do serious harm or it would have been worse. They included that the lion was not hungry.

I did see a tweet that the trainer got over 100 stitches.

I think that only a 100 stitches is very mild when you think about the size of the lion, the teeth, and claws. It also looks like the lion is only going after the 1 guy and doesn’t even care about the 2nd man that was in between them.

Here is a video that was taken by a tourist. MGM Grand has confirmed that the video is from the incident on Sept. 1st.

So what do you think may have got this lion to “go after” this trainer on this particular day?

  1. I believe ALL animals have a great memory. This being said, my feeling is this trainer must have hurt this lion in the past. It was apparent the lion wanted only him, I say this because as loving and as friendly as my dog is, he attempted to bite a friends son one day (if he wanted to bite him, he would have. It was a warning shot). When I asked what the boy was doing to my dog, he said “nothing, I was just trying to pet him”. I found out later from my daughters he was throwing sticks at him during his last visit! Never sense or before has my dog even tried to bite or snap at anyone! I thing my dog remembered!!! I also noticed the other lion seemed like it was trying to help the trainer?

  2. Did you notice how nervous that guy was acting before the attack. I think his ‘acting scared’ set something off in the lion.
