Today in animal news, I saw a story head line that made me think twice (and that can be hard on a Saturday).
Many people have heard the word Orthodontics. In fact I have experienced orthodontics, since I had braces as a kid. So when a head line talks about orthodontics and a turtle, I was confused. I had no idea that turtles had teeth. Even if I had known that turtles had teeth, I wouldn’t have thought they needed braces to straighten them out. Ok, so the turtle in the story doesn’t have teeth as it is a sea turtle. Hmmm, maybe it needed the jaw or roof of it’s mouth changed? Nope not that either. See, I really stink at putting those two words together and figuring out what are they doing to that poor turtle (my orthodontics work hurt like crazy sometimes, no turtle should be punished that way).
Never fear, the staff at Loggerhead Marinelife Center and the Dr.s in charge are not wack-o’s fixing a sea turtles bite. In fact they are doing something to save the turtle after it was injured by a boat. If you click over to Sea Turtle Gets Orthodontics, you will see that they are using the same ideas they use to fix humans bite lines to fix this sea turtles shell. Amazing! They even have a video showing how they attached the wires to the turtles shell and how it is working.
I guess, that orthodontist in Juno Beach, Florida are much nicer than the one I had as a kid. ;-)
